So you’re all moved in and unpacked, for the most part. Now what? Well, here’s my predicament. In the hallway of our new home I have stacks of books and book boxes. A couple of weeks ago we went out and purchased a bookshelf and small kitchen island. Consequently, I have made more of a mess just trying to figure out what goes where.
It can get a little overwhelming, so I’ve narrowed it down to 3 Key Tips for during the moving process.
Close the Doors:
And no I don’t meant the doors to your new home–though don’t forget to lock your doors at night! I’m talking about the doors to your closets, cabinets, dresser drawers, etc. If you leave a closet door open in the hopes of finishing your organizing project by the end of the week, it’ll drive you insane. Even if you end up shoving items into the corners of your closet, do it and close the door. Later go back and deal with each closet or cabinet one at time.
If you can help it, don’t leave any unnecessary items on the floor. At the least put those little knick knacks on a bookshelf until you know where they should really belong. Clearing the floor space will give you some mental clarity and keep you on track to a Clean & Proper home!
And by that I mean your time. It’s easy to think, “This whole weekend I’ll do nothing but unpack!” I love the ambition but the reality is that it’ll take you more than just one weekend. You’ll spend those two days endlessly unpacking and then be too exhausted to finish the job until the following weekend. Take your time, put things where you want them and then go for a run or bike ride or go out to eat dinner instead of attempting to use your kitchen right away.
